Artists village at the National Theatre destroyed.

Source: Olisa.tv

The Artists Village at the National
Theatre in Lagos has been destroyed,
according to a Facebook post by Segun
Adefila, the founder of the world
renowned Crown Troupe of Africa, a
musical theatre group based in Bariga.

Adefila said the area was torn down by
bulldozers on Saturday
morning and most of the belongings of
artists were either destroyed or
stolen. One of the pictures he posted on
Facebook also show what appears to be a
bullet hole in a car, suggesting that there
might have been some resistance from
the artists.

“Today, Saturday,23rd of January 2016,
while idle youths who have found
engagement in crime roam the city
almost unchecked, the Artists Village (the
only artistically functional part of the
National Theatre- a gigantic edifice with
no soul) is under invasion.

Information emanating from the
National Theatre indicate that the
demolition order was given by Kabiru
Yusuf, the GM of National Theatre.

He was a second runner-up at both Eko Poetry Slam and Abuja Poetry Slam in 2015. He started with the same feat in 2014, when he won as the second runner-up at the War of Words organised by ix2media, the producers of WordUp and WarOfWords Online slam.

There are qualities found among ants
That among humans are quite scant
Tiny heads bagging season reasons as big as the
elephants’
They do wonders that humans can’t.
These unique traits traced to this small ants’
race
Make the human race a very big disgrace.

These ants are so conscious of time
Their projects subjects the object called “clime”.
That they gather food on seasons is a pointer
On how to have enough food at winter.
With their superb skookum strength
They carry lofty loads to long lengths
While men lie idle in their tents
Praying to their gods to rain cents
These unique traits traced to this small ants’
race
Make the human race a very big disgrace.

No ant heads its colony
Nor rule its people with tyranny They won’t embezzle the dividends of their
economy
Nor will because of poverty,
Take instruments of death to rob another of his
property
They gather together
And live in peace on and off weather.
These unique traits traced to this small ants’
race
Make the human race a very big disgrace.

MOON LIGHT TALES (DUET) by D-Braide and DaTalent

---------❤❤❤----------

D-Braide:
Like a tale told by moonlight.
Every thing we shared grew grey hairs.
The water pot on your head and catapult in my hand.
Even the songs we danced to, now bears a grey sight.

DaTalent:
Like a tale told by moonlight.
This love interest me so,
That its strength is now my might.
To make it do nothing but grow.

D-Braide:
Love made us wiser than a serpent.
Breaking my pride and forming my bride.
Gather the grains of unity and arrange the voice of sanctity.
'Cause love and unity will forever be our guide.

DaTalent:
Oh! So light I feel.
By this love I'm swept off my feet.
Nothing this passion can kill,
'Cause it is but a rare feat.

D-Braide:
Let dreams bear dreams and love rule realms.
I'm no king without u my queen.
Counting the stars just got easier like measuring a stream.
Over and over, I'll commit this beautiful sin.

DaTalent:
Even the highest judge
Would not want to acquit me of this crime
'Cause every sentence I dodge
Except the love tree to climb.

D-Braide:
Hold unity by her right arm.
And see if she won't rub you her potent charm.
Grab her by her left, I swear all you'll get is still her best.
Unity holds the earth in space, till tomorrow she'll remain our guest.

DaTalent:
Like a tale told by moonlight.
I feel the love shine so bright,
With unity and strength we'd tolerate,
The pace at which it accelerates.

D-Braide:
Isn't love the most beautiful in her ugly state?
Isn't she the strongest in her dying moments?
I'll echo these words in every estate.
Love is tougher than harsh comments.

DaTalent:
I hear your voice even in whispers,
'Cause the strength of it is deeper.
Greater is it even when its weak.
This love is strength at its peak.

Oja Ale (Night Market) by KOLADE OLANREWAJU FREEDOM

I
Oja ale,
The sun gradually leaves the scene
to get some rest in a faraway abode,
for us to creep out of our slums
to trade pettiness by the roadside.

Our voice, like the buzzing of the bee,
defies the defiant silence of the night
sweetening the ears of passers-by
whose weary feet halt at our stands.

Atupa, our constant companion,
illuminates our trades with fortune
drawing the attention of sojourners
to the good that lies in our goods.

II
Oja ale,
an egalitarian eager to meet the demands of all,
a practical democrat fair and just to all,
a socialist loathed by bloated capitalists,
an illegally legal arm of commerce.

Oja ale,
a necessity necessitated by
the nagging needs of the masses;
an ageless, formless and 'homeless' structure
withstanding the winds of modernism.

*Oja ale- night market
*atupa- local lamp

WE ARE TAKING OVER - by Ifeanyi Bernard "Prestige"

WE ARE TAKING OVER
.........................................
Spoken word piece by Ifeanyi Bernard "Prestige"
When will you take over?

We're taking over now.
We're taking over the mountains.
We're taking over the hills.
We're taking over the fountains.
We're taking over the mills.

We're taking over the body, soul and mind.
We're taking over the world; that's why we step on it.
Step by step we shall step into a realm where men shall follow our steps and hit their chest to say, "yes, we are taking over".

We're following the footsteps of our master like the twelve disciples.
We're taking over the inner being inside us,
That makes us show no love to people who reside beside us.
We're taking over.

We're taking over the goal post cos our goal is to post goals.
We're taking over the ova
Cos survival doesn't fit us.
So, don't call us survivors
Cos survival of the fittest
Are sometimes for the weakest
And to fight over a weakness
You will need to be a witness
To your very own uniqueness.

Just like the truth that never dies,
We're taking over the whole picture
We're taking over all creatures
We're kings and Queens of mother nature.
We're taking over all the animals on land in the air and in the waters.
We're taking over the oven where great minds are baked with spices of wisdom and creativity.

We are taking over,
We are not taken over.
We're taking over with the speed of a range rover.
We're taking over the valleys.
We're taking over the plains.

We're taking over the past.
The past is an experience and experience has shown that there can be no better teacher than experience itself, and that's the power of nature.
The past won't haunt us like poker huntas Cos the past is past and the past will pass through the past, present and future.
Yes, we're taking over.

We're taking over the days.
We're taking over the years.
We're taking over the time.
We're taking over the overtime.

We're taking over the news
Cos the HEADlines have become our TALErhymes.

We're taking over
And we do that with tact.
As a matter of fact,
We overtake but we can never ever be overtaken.
So, take over now
